At Least 30 Dead, Dozens Missing After Boats Collide on Congo River
At least 30 people have died and dozens remain missing after two overcrowded boats collided on the Congo River near Ngombe-Lukolela in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The accident occurred on Sunday night when a metal vessel travelling from Kinshasa crashed into a wooden boat coming from Businga, causing them to sink and trapping passengers underwater. Authorities have launched search-and-rescue operations for those missing, highlighting the recurring issue of fatal boat disasters in the region caused by poor safety standards, overloading, and night-time navigation.
